A quiz is a competition with set of quick questions designed to test the knowledge or intelligence of a person or a group of people. As part of the year of Marist vocations, the Province of West Africa through the Vocations office planned a series of activities to mark the year in memorable style quiz was organized for the three Marist schools in Ghana to compete. The essence of the competition was to enhance the confidence of the students as well as familiarize with themselves and display their knowledge of Marcellin Champagnat and the Brothers.

It was in this light that, a quiz competition ensued between the three Marist schools in Ghana namely, Saint Marcellin Champagnat School (SMCS), Marist Preparatory/JHS (MPS) and Our Good Mother School (OGMS), on 28th of April 2023 at Marist Preparatory/JHS assembly hall.

Upon arrival at the venue, Our Good Mother School and Marist Preparatory School were already seated. We were warmly welcomed by the MC, Brother Micheal Telewah, fms. The program began with an opening prayer by Brother Harry Nyanti, fms. Mr Krama Bartholomeo, Assistant Headmaster, MPS welcomed staff and students present. The MC introduced the quiz master, Brother Eugene Ezugwu and other officials. It was followed by the contestants from the three Marist Schools. As competitions always create tension in participants, MPS choreography team was invited to perform to ease up tensions.

The quiz master read out the rules of the game. The first question of the quiz was answered correctly by MPS followed by OGMS, then to SMCS. The order of questioning was in an anticlockwise manner. The first round ended with the 3 schools having 12 points each. The second round began and SMCS this time started as the questions were now asked in the clockwise manner. At the middle of the second round, MPS broke a tie amongst the 3 schools by losing 3 points. At the time, the built-up tension grew as the battle was now in favor of OGMS as they had a bonus which gave them a comfortable lead. The second round ended as MPS had 9 points; SMCS with 12 points and OGMS with 13 points. The spectators applauded for correct answers and even wrong answers to cheer the contestants.

 In the third round of the competition, OGMS who had taken the lead lost 3 points by failing to answer a question. A bonus was given to SMCS and out of 2 attempts which cost them a 1 point to make 2-point difference between them and OGMS. Round 3 ended with MPS having 9 points, SMCS with 12 and OGMS 19. SMCS took the lead with OGMS as second and MPS as the third.

The fourth and final round was an essay question. The 3 schools were asked to write on the topic ‘Who is a Marist Brother’? After 5 minutes, the 3 schools presented their essays MPS had 9 points, SMCS with 6 points and OGMS with 8 points. At the end of the competition, MPS had 48 points, SMCS 54 points and OGMS 55 points.

All said and done, all the contestants were given medals for their participation. OGMS who emerged victorious for the day was given a trophy. After the presentation of the awards, the contestants took pictures. After the program, we socialized with one another, exchanged contacts, and took pictures with students at our sister schools.
